    The final piece from my recent show, ‘In Harmony.’ The Eastern Phoenix is often associated with harmony and new beginnings. In trying to portray those associations, the body is decorated with floral motifs; little sprouts blooming from its back, and tail feathers resembling a blossoming flower #brbchasingdreams

    This is Phoenix of Flame Renewed, an exercise in softer layering techniques.

    I used the Caran d'Ache colored pencils here, so I had to layer colors in a lot of soft, light layers in order to get nice gradients and to preserve luminosity. It was an enjoyable experiment, and I need to get these guys back out on the table for some more experiments one of these days.

    There are also two small amethysts.
